Since June 16, 1992, when the Bank was founded based on the solution reached by the National Bank of Yugoslavia, the Bank has gone through the challenges of time and today, it has become a strong and respectable partner in the financial market in Serbia.
The Bank started to operate under the name MB ASI banka DD until June 30, 1995, in accordance with changes in legislation and regulation, reregistered as ASI banka AD with 190 shareholders. Under the current name, Univerzal Banka AD Belgrade, it has been operating since June 1, 1997.
The development of the business network and the opening of branches all over Serbia, began at the end of 1993. Permission for the balance of payments and credit operations with foreign countries (the so-called “Great Permission”) was obtained on May 16, 1995. Since January 2003, the Bank has been performing payment operations in the country, and since the beginning of January 2006, it has been trading with Bank shares on the Belgrade Stock Exchange. In 2006, the Bank provided conditions for obtaining the Certificate of International Quality System ISO 9001:2000, and got it in early 2007. Since 2010, the Bank has had the Certificate of International Quality System ISO 9001:2008.
Ever since its establishment, the Bank has regularly harmonized the organization and normative acts, the size and structure of its capital and other business indicators.
In the circumstances of the strong competition of both domestic and foreign banks, the Bank has managed to achieve its development plans, strengthen the capacities, increase the number of customers and widen the network of branches.
Today, with its organizational units, Univerzal bank is present in almost 30 cities in Serbia, and has about 450 employees. The continuity of its successful business results and the affirmation of high ethical standards is noticed. Therefore, the Bank has got numerous national and international awards.
